A Time for Everything

This is from November 7, 2012.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.”

What better place to see that these verses are true than your news feed on Facebook. Some posts I have seen recently have been from those who are weeping over the loss of a loved one. Other posts have been ones of thanksgiving over a new opportunity. Some posts are ones where people finally speak something that needs to be sad, and some are ones that show that the poster is seeking something from God.

This week I saw a post from a friend who was mourning the death of a teenage neighbor who had lost her battle with disease. It was obvious that she was dealing with the hurt of loss. Honestly, I never know exactly what to do when I see posts about loss. It feels like whatever words I can type as a comment are not enough. I certainly don’t want to comment with anything trite.

Then I start to feel badly about wanting to post something good. I don’t want to focus on my good news or Scripture that shows joy or thankfulness when my friend is hurting. But I need to remember that we all go through different seasons at different times. It is important that we remember this and consider the other person and what season they are in. It is also important to realize that it is okay for you to be in a season of dancing while another is in a season of weeping. Don’t ignore your season. Don’t think that you can’t be in your season while others are in a different season. God knows what season we are in and He has us in at just the right moment for us.
